September Simplicity...

September 2009

The idea of simplicity is popular in book titles. On amazon.com you’ll find simplify in 202,000 book titles. If you want a book to make things simple, there are 466,000 listings. The magazine Real Simple is attractive because of the clean cover and lack of clutter. With simple, we think less of something and more of something else. Less complication, less stuff, less clutter, less pieces. More peace, satisfaction, fulfillment. September is a good time to SIMPLIFY and return to what is important. But where do we start?

Two years ago, I spoke at a women’s gathering about preparing for the holidays. The eight points I shared are applicable in any season. Take a minute and let the scriptures remind you of these facets of simplicity. Whether it’s remembering to invest in what is eternal instead of getting caught in worldly entanglements, or guarding your mouth so you’ll stay out of complicated situations, you’ll find truths to consider for a blessed and simplified autumn.

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God." (Phil. 1:9-11)
